Direct Request (CEACR) - adopted 2015, published 105th ILC session (2016)

White Lead (Painting) Convention, 1921 (No. 13) - Burkina Faso (Ratification: 1960)

Display in: French - SpanishView all

The Committee notes the observations of the National Confederation of Workers of Burkina Faso (CNTB), received on 25 August 2015, according to which it is possible that paint that is not in accordance with the standards is entering the country due to the economic liberalism existing in Burkina Faso, and that it may be a source of illness for workers. The Committee notes the Government’s indication in its reply that the customs and fraud services are taking measures to prevent the entry into the country and to seize any products that are not in conformity with the relevant standards. It also notes the Government’s indication that Decree No. 2011-883/PRES/PM/MFPTSS/MICA/MAH/MEDD issuing measures on the distribution and use of products or mixtures for industrial use that give rise to hazards for workers, is enforced by the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Artisanal Enterprises and the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development. The Committee requests the Government to provide additional information on the measures taken in practice to ensure that paint containing white lead does not enter the country and to indicate the relevant provisions of Decree No. 2011 883/PRES/PM/MFPTSS/MICA/MAH/MEDD in this regard.
