The Committee notes the information supplied in the Government’s report, including the promulgation of Decree No. 47 of 22 April 1998 establishing the minimum wage for agricultural workers. The Committee notes, however, that the annexes referred to in the report have not been received and that the Office letter of 17 November 1999 on this matter has remained unanswered. The Committee must, therefore, renew its request for information, including relevant texts or statistics, on the following matters: (i) remedies and time limit(s) granted to workers wishing to recover the amount owed to them by employers in cases where they have been remunerated at a level below the applicable minimum rates; (ii) cases of appeal against failure to pay minimum wages in the agricultural sector and the penalties imposed for this purpose; and (iii) the approximate number of workers concerned and employed in agriculture, including in agricultural cooperatives with, if possible, a breakdown by sector (cotton, coffee, sugar cane) and by category of workers (seasonal, daily).
The Committee asks the Government to provide in its next report all relevant information in order to facilitate the examination of the practical application of the Convention.
The Committee notes the detailed information provided in the Government's first report. It requests the Government to provide further information on the following points:
