The Committee last examined this case at its November 2007 meeting, when it requested the Government to keep it informed of the ongoing investigations to identify and sanction without delay those responsible for breaking property and stealing property and documents from the Unified Trade Union Confederation of Guatemala (CUSG) and for the threatening phone calls to the trade unionist Carlos Humberto Carballo Cabrera (events that occurred in 2006) [see 348th Report, paras 113–115].

In its communication of 4 June 2010, the Government indicates that on 24 March 2009 the International Affairs Department requested the Office of Crimes against Journalists and Trade Unionists at the Office of the Public Prosecutor to supply information to enable it to indicate the progress made in the investigations. In response to its request, the Government indicates that on 1 April 2009 the Office of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security received a communication from the Office of Crimes against Journalists and Trade Unionists indicating that the case had been dismissed by the competent judge.
- 58. The Committee takes note of this information and regrets that the investigations conducted did not enable the perpetrators to be identified and punished.
