In reply to previous comments, the Government indicates in its report that within the population of the Dominican Republic there are no indigenous and tribal populations, for which reason it has not taken any action in relation to the Convention. The Committee observes that in Latin America the term “tribal” has been applied to certain afro-descendant communities, as indicated in the Handbook for ILO Tripartite Constituents: Understanding the Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention, 1989 (No. 169), published by the Office in February 2013. The Committee invites the Government to consider including information on afro-descendant communities in its report on Convention No. 107, taking into consideration that the cultural values of these communities could lie within the scope of certain provisions of the Convention.
